I find fulfillment in singing and providing accompaniment at the keyboard. When I accompany myself or others, I avoid playing the melody, because a soloist appreciates the freedom to express himself or herself. The solution is to develop confidence in using chords and adding fills (complementary rhythm) for enhancement. I think the development of this skill should be a part of early keyboard study.
