Education & Experience

As you study the DVD and CD-R you’ll see that I’ve come to where I am as a result of two very important factors:  educational opportunities and a God-given motivation to continue learning.  My educational background includes undergraduate study at The Oberlin Conservatory and Bluffton University, B.S.; graduate study at Kent State University, M.A.; and doctoral study at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, D.M.M.  Other study includes certification in Dalcroze eurhythmics from Carnegie Mellon University, and a directed study in Schenkerian analysis at The University of Louisville.  This information is not included to impress anyone, but rather to say that I’m indebted to many fine teachers, colleagues and students for the understanding of music that I’ve acquired.  My most recent teaching experience was at Ashland Theological Seminary, Professor Emeritus.  Before that I taught at Nyack College, North Central Bible College, Mansfield University, Kent State University, and prior to that public school music.

In addition to the above, my life has been enriched by opportunities to minister in churches of various denominations, which has required me to develop skills in working with a wide variety of musical styles. I’m thankful for this opportunity to pass some of what I’ve learned to others who are on a journey of life-long learning.
