Advanced Chords

In Beginning Steps my words were: “Dare to be simple; use basic chords.” In Bigger Steps our palette of chords is expanded as familiar sequential patterns are studied and applied. In Advanced Chords, there are new delights to be discovered as we move beyond major and minor to other scales: Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, and Mixolydian. Modulation, the final session is filled with simple, then creative and more complex modulations to all keys, an invaluable tool.

The topics include:

  • The Altered Mediant Chord
  • Tri-tone Substitute Chords
  • Modal Scales and Chords
  • Modulation to All Keys

In addition to the MP4 videos, the “Snap Shot Views” (excerpts) are also included in the digital files. The CD-R version includes Power point slides of music examples that can be projected on a screen for classroom
presentations or viewed on mobile devices. These are available free of charge except for the cost of shipping. Contact Information: rsprunger77@gmail.com or 419-651-7155 (cell)

Free Lesson Three is good overview of “Advanced Chords.” In the initial work of creating videos a webcam was used. More recently the overhead shots of the keyboard have been done with a Samsung Galaxy smart phone, and the video editing is done with Camtasia Studio.
