As an arranger I enjoy combining a familiar melody with a classic theme that might not be known to the listener. As I heard the first three pitches of “As the Deer” I thought of Dvorak’s use of those same three pitches for “Largo” from The New World Symphony. After you’ve heard both melodies, you might discover where they are heard simultaneously. There are new things to discover when we take time to listen to piece more than once.
