Charles Gounod, a 19th C. French composer, selected Bach’s “Prelude in C” and added his own melody for “Ave Maria.” Many years later I was inspired to compose a prayer to be sung to the tune of “Ave Maria.” Linda, my wife, composed a new accompaniment that is not-at-all like Bach’s prelude. The result is a musical offering that spans several centuries. I’m wondering how Bach and Gounod would respond if they heard this fusion of their music.
