The author of an early hymn describes Jesus as the image, or the icon of the invisible God (see Colossians 1:15-20). Jesus has inspired song writers throughout the centuries, and “Fairest Lord Jesus” is one of the many songs that proclaims the supremacy of Christ: “Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer than all the angels heaven can boast.”
