The metamorphosis of the butterfly is an intriguing story that inspired the writing of this song for children. With a sense of wonder I see the transformation of a caterpillar to a butterfly, or the waking of the human spirit, and I stand in awe of God’s creative work. God created all things bright and beautiful and planted his image in me so I can glorify Him through my gift of creativity. To capture the sense of mystery, a whole tone scale is used for the phrase, “In mystery a miracle will happen very soon.” As I work with preschool children I strive to nurture a sense of wonder and gratitude that could become a life-long perspective.
